After a full day of competition on Sunday for the semis, the list of the finalists was released today. Congratulations to the following Finalists, who will compete on Fantastic Friday (February 13) at the International Soca Monarch Finals at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in the Groovy and Power Soca Monarch Categories! (Note: Although Machel will be defending the Power Soca title, Kerwin Du Bois has bowed out of the Groovy Monarch competition.)

Over 350 hopefuls performed in the preliminary round of the International Soca Monarch competition 2015. After the competition, the field was narrowed to 35 competing for the Lotto Plus International Power Soca Monarch Title and 45 competitors for the Digicel International Groovy Soca Monarch. Carded to compete at the Semi Finals to be held in The Greens , Queen’s Park Savannah Port of Spain, on January 25th are : Groovy Category : Preedy, 5 Star Akil, Biggie Irie, Darnella Simmons, Farmer Nappy, Saucy, Destra Garcia, Lyrikal, Dev, Blaxx, Crazy, Erphaan Alves, Faith Antoine, Skinny Fabulous, Jahmoun, J Angel, Jojo , Zan , Chow Chow, Keriz, Kitch, Tim Tim, Young Voice, Nadia Batson, Iwer, Sekon Sta, FaddaFox, Ola, Orlando Octave , Oscar B, Saddis & Leadpipe, Patrice Roberts, Ravi B, Ricardo Drue, Benjai, Chucky, Patch, Sasha, Menace, Lil Bitts, Shurwayne Winchester, Syo, Shal Marshall, Makamillion & Umi and Tallpree. Not quite 2 weeks into 2015 and we are bombarded with massive POWER Soca tunes for the season. So much so, the entire first hour of the show will make you jump up and wave! DJ Majesti and Drew Atlas bring the best of the 'Groovy' tunes for the 2nd hour and the crew are joined in studio, toward the end of the program, by Toronto's DJ Jester.  Jester talks about how his genre-bending remix with Bunji Garlin and A$AP Ferg for 'Truck on D Road' came about, plus he makes the crew 'wheel' Kerwin Du Bois again....and again! For years we've repeatedly mentioned that if there's a fete in Edmonton (especially during Cariwest) you should get in your car and drive the 2hrs to experience it. Earlier this week, Soca star Lyrikal was interviewed on Trinidad's 96.1 WE fm and asked if there were any places he had performed where he was surprised by the response. Without hesitation Lyrikal mentioned his performance at Edmonton's Cariwest festival in August .  The CalgarySoca crew is happy to have been a part of that presentation alongside DJ Soca Sweetness and, the man behind the event, Evan Rutherford of ETR Events .
